We keep local sporting fields, parks and farms green all year by using reuse water that's produced at North East Water's wastewater treatment plants.

The majority of the Corporations 20 plants provide reclaimed water for irrigation and commercial use.

It’s not widely known that North East Water is one of the biggest farming businesses in Victoria and we use reclaimed water to irrigate crops and pasture across the region.

This means the Corporation is self-sufficient in using a large portion of the recycled water we produce, which in turn keeps costs low for our customers.

Reclaimed Water Reuse Schemes

We currently supply over 2830 ML of reclaimed water to 22 different schemes that vary from lawn irrigation at the Victory Primary School, Wodonga to large scale irrigated cropping in Benalla and Yarrawonga. These reuse schemes not only supply valuable reclaimed water for agriculture, they also benefit the community by providing reclaimed water to Schools, Parks and Golf Courses that would not normally have access to this resource.

100% reuse of reclaimed water is currently achieved at the following towns:

  • Corryong
  • Tallangatta
  • Bellbridge
  • Yackandandah
  • Chiltern
  • Rutherglen
  • Yarrawonga
  • Barnawartha

The following towns have up to 50% reclaimed water reuse:

  • Beechworth
  • Wangaratta
  • Benalla
  • Wodonga
  • Bright
