At North East Water, our priority is to provide reliable water and sewer services to our customers, protect the environment, and plan for future growth.
Current infrastructure capacity
Our existing water and sewer infrastructure in Mount Beauty, Tawonga, and Tawonga South has reached capacity. This follows our recent support for a proposed 82-lot development in Tawonga South which will connect to the local sewer system and include the installation of a detention tank to manage capacity. Stage 1 for 30 connections could commence immediately with the remaining stages able to connect once a water network upgrade is completed. This development represents approximately five years of growth for the region at the current rate. In the last three years property development has been minimal in these towns, with approx. four new properties connecting to our water and sewer services annually.
Managing system capacity
To ensure the integrity of our services, we are currently not approving additional water or sewer connections until essential infrastructure upgrades are completed. However, in some cases, short-term operational improvements may allow smaller developments to proceed in the near future.
Planned infrastructure upgrades
We are committed to supporting growth in Mount Beauty, Tawonga, and Tawonga South through significant infrastructure upgrades. Key projects include:
- New drinking water storage tank: completion expected in 2027-28.
- New sewer pump station in Tawonga South: completion expected in 2028-29.
Additionally, after extensive community engagement, construction of a new $4 million raw water offtake is set to begin later this year.
These projects represent a $9 million investment in the local community
