Water main upgrade of aging pipe in Bright
8 July 2019
North East Water will be upgrading water mains in Bright’s shopping precinct over the coming months.
The work will take place on Gavan Street between Anderson and Camp streets starting late July 2019 for a period of approximately 12 weeks.
Executive Manager Planning and Infrastructure, Kevin Freeman, said the Corporation needs to replace 500 metres of 70 year old water main.
“Two pipes will be upgraded to one new larger main to help reduce the likelihood of breaks well into the future”, said Mr Freeman.
“We realise the work will be disruptive, and because Bright is a busy tourist town for most of the year, we’ve chosen a period where the disruption will hopefully be minimised.
“During construction process, traffic management will be in place along Gavan Street with ongoing changes to parking and access to footpaths.
“There will also be minor disruption to the water supply of nearby customers at certain stages during the upgrade.
Mr Freeman added, “We have been talking to local shop owners during the planning process of this project and we’ll continue to engage with them during the construction period to address any concerns they may have.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their patience during the coming work.”
