North East community to help shape water future

 04 October 2016

With all the recent rain, and a few months away from summer, it might not be top of mind to think about the water that comes out of our taps, however North East Water is embarking on a comprehensive consultation process to engage with its customers in planning for the future.

Executive Manager Customer and Community Ann Telford said that an extensive and innovative engagement process is now under way, which is designed to reach all areas of the North East Water’s service area. This will give everyone an equal opportunity to have their say.

“Known as your water. your say, the engagement activities will be taking place over the next couple of months and will include focus groups in Wangaratta, Wodonga, Benalla, Bright and Corryong. The Corporation will also invites its customers to participate in online surveys and visit its pop-up kiosks in many of our local communities.” she said.

“We are asking people to talk to us about what they value most about their water and wastewater services and help us understand the things they want us to focus on over the coming years.

“A series of deliberative forums will also further explore the feedback we receive from the customer focus groups and surveys. The customer deliberative forums will bring together different perspectives and viewpoints of a representative sample of our customers and will ensure that all of these are considered. It is a concept that provides our customers with the chance to play a significant and influential role in shaping the future.

“It is really important for us to get our customers’ input in relation to a variety of important water related issues, ranging from the tariff strategy to how we plan for climate change.”

Specific engagement tailored towards commercial and industrial customers, indigenous groups and young people will feature throughout the consultation period.
