Bright’s Mafeking Square to get new water main

 04 November 2016

North East Water will be upgrading water mains in Bright’s Mafeking Square precinct over the next several weeks.

The work will take place between 7 November and 20 December with the new pipes to be in place by the Christmas holiday period.

Executive Manager Planning and Infrastructure, Kevin Freeman, said the construction ties in with Alpine Shire’s planned beautification work in the area.

“We need to replace 250 metres of water main before Council starts laying new pavers in the square”, said Mr Freeman.

“The current water main is 60 years old and the new pipes will reduce the likelihood of breaks well into the future.”

Mr Freeman added, “During construction process, the water supply to nearby customers will be turned off several times for a short period. This will be done after hours to help minimise disruption.”

“There will also be minor disruption to parking and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their patience during the work.”
