Water main upgrade for Tallangatta

 29 November 2016

North East Water will be upgrading water mains in Tallangatta's shopping precinct early in the New Year.

The work will take place on Towong Street following the Christmas holiday period starting 9 January 2017 for a period of approximately four weeks.

Executive Manager Planning and Infrastructure, Kevin Freeman, said the construction ties in with Towong Shire's planned 'Destination Tallangatta' project.

"We need to replace 600 metres of water main before Council starts its beautification work in the area", said Mr Freeman.

"The current water main is 60 years old and the new pipes will reduce the likelihood of breaks well into the future."

Mr Freeman added, 'During construction process, there will be some disruption to parking in the area, but all footpaths will be accessible."

"There may also be minor disruption to the water supply of nearby customers at certain stages during the upgrade.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their patience during the work."

Further work to connect the new water main to customer water meters will be carried out during the Council's beautification project.
